Planning process of cutting 20ct Coober Pedy opal
Here is a little behind the scenes video of how I plan and why I will cut this opal in two gemstones.
This is very beautiful Australian crystal/white opal from Coober Pedy. I got it as whooping 21ct rough.
I cleaned up the face of the opal and now needed to figure out the best way to cut it. There are multiple reasons why I can't keep it as one solid opal - it has a slight crack on a side (most likely from a hit), sand inclusion what goes deeper than I'd like and in the end the thickness of the opal advocates for two different thickness opals.
