Authenticity & Certification

Are your opals genuine and natural?

Yes — every opal and gemstone in our shop is 100% natural and untreated unless explicitly stated otherwise. We source directly from trusted suppliers and can provide provenance details for each stone on request.

Do your opals come with a certificate?

Most pieces are accompanied by a description card with key details (origin, weight, dimensions). For high-value stones, a gemological certificate from an independent laboratory can be arranged — please contact us before purchasing if you require one.

How can I be sure of what I'm buying online?

Each listing includes multiple high-resolution photographs taken in natural light, exact measurements, and an honest description of colour play and any natural inclusions. If you have questions about a specific stone, reach out — we're happy to share additional photos or a short video.

Opal Care

How should I store my opal?

Store opals away from direct sunlight and heat. A soft pouch or padded jewellery box is ideal. Avoid storing opals with harder gemstones that could scratch them.

Do not store opals in the water.

Can opals get wet?

Australian and Brazilian opals are sediment opals and can get wet, washed in warm soap water to keep them clean. While they have some water content, they do not react with water.

Ethiopian, Mexican and other volcanic origin opals should not be exposed to water or other liquids, as they absorb liquid and it can change properties of opal: like dim the play of colour or make opals opaque.

How do I clean my opal?

Wash Australian and Brazilian opals with warm soap water and clean opal jewellery with soft toothbrush. Do not expose Ethiopian and Mexican opals to water or other liquids. Use soft, dry cloth to clean them.

Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam, or harsh chemical solutions. Avoid sudden temperature changes.

Are opals fragile?

Opals rate 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making them softer than many gemstones. Handle with care, avoid knocks, and remove opal jewellery before physical activity or housework. It's important to note what type of setting opal is in - we recommend to set opals in fully closed bezel setting as it will keep stone safe.
